Meine Lippen, sie kussen so heiss
from the Opera Giuditta by Frans Lehar

The story tells of the Army officer Octavio and his consuming love for Giuditta, a passionate spitfire, who
leaves him because he refuses to desert the colours for her; their chance meeting several years afterwards
comes too late, though they realise how much they have lost.
.
Carmen Monarcha
English version of the song.
My lips they kiss so hot.

Why ever should it be
That men at once make love to me?
When they are near me,
There they stand.
Their eyes look deep in mine.
They always kiss my hand.
Why ever should it be
They speak of magic charms in me
That no man can resist?
For every time they look at me these charms
persist.

But when the soft lights glint and glance
As midnight hours go by
They hear me sing, they see me dance
It's then that I know why

On my lips every kiss is like wine
In my arms love is more than divine,
Its engraved in the stars high above me
Men must kiss me, men must love me.

When my feet haunting rhythms inspire,
In my eyes gleam the flames of desire,
When I dance, then I know Fate's design.
On my lips every kiss is like wine.

I have a dancer's blood
That rules me like a throbbing flood.
My mother was the dancing star
Without a rival at the Golden Alcazar!
How great she must have been!
In dreams I have so often seen
The raptures when she danced;
She held each heart enthralled and every eye
entranced.

Her spirit wakes in me again,
My fortune wills it so.
At night I dance as she did then,
And this is all I know.

Meine Lippen, sie kussen so heiss.

Ich weiss es selber nicht,
warum man gleich von Liebe spricht,
wenn man in meiner Nähe ist,
in meine Augen schaut und meine Hände küßt.
Ich weiss es selber nicht,
warum man von dem Zauber spricht.
Denn keine widersteht,

In meinen Adern drin,
Carmen Monarcha
sings Meine Lippen, sie kussen so heiss.

On the Sylvester(New-Year's eve) Punch 2003 DVD, recorded in Hannover (Germany), Carmen
Monarcha was presented by André.
She would sing an aria that was supposed to destroy every man’s heart.

She has also sung this in America, in German. She dances like a Spanish gypsy.  I really don’t know what
she was singing, and apparently neither did Carmen, as she referred to: “Ich weiss es selber nicht” (I don’
t know it myself)!

There is no other musical part that is so beautiful to watch and listen to as this one. It is the 9th title on the
Sylvester Punch DVD. Everything happens here and the music is very  romantic, my absolute favorite.

Carmen sang so beautiful, with such dynamism and the theater in Hannover has such fantastic acoustics
that, it sounded as if her voice had acquired wings.

Sometimes I thought to myself: “Girl, how can you sing so shamelessly loud.  During this performance only
Carmen Monarcha and André Rieu were on the screen, nobody else.  This is rare; because of normally all
members of the orchestra are seen on the video.

Never before had I seen Carmen sing and dance with such freedom and charm as on this video.  She took
such pleasure in her elegant dancing, and you could notice this on everything.
To look at her is a delight. Madonna is nothing compared with this performance.

What I liked most were the flirtatious looks André got from the 22 years-old Carmen.  The camera
followed her beautiful sparkling dark eyes closely. Fantastic!
I feel then as if I am André and I’m on stage myself!

André was on screen all the time and he looked continuously towards Carmen’s face. It looks like he didn’t
want to miss a second of what was going on! Neither did I.   There is nothing more joyful than looking at a
beautiful girl that tries to attract you with her charms.

When Carmen left the stage, André invited her back and called her “Carmencita”.
Oh, I found that so romantic!

It is almost certain that all details of this performance were thoroughly rehearsed with the choreographer
before.  With Andre being the perfectionist he does not leave anything to chance.  The voice, the
performance was a highlight for me and I miss her dearly, now that she has left the JSO.
Hopefully when she comes to Vienna, they can persuade her to come back.
